As international interns, Badger engineers learn the ropes of shipbuilding in Italy

Over the summer, four undergraduate students in the UW-Madison College of Engineering spent two months during summer 2024 in the port city of Trieste, Italy, working for FINCANTIERI, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding companies. Their work at the company’s headquarters led to meaningful hands-on experience as students, including designed diagrams and performed underlying calculations for ventilation systems — work that’s being implemented by the company.
