SmartCert sponsors CDIS capstone project

SmartCert, a company that helps simplify quality certification management across the supply chain, is growing its partnership with the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

As part of this collaboration, SmartCert is sponsoring a Capstone Project through UW–Madison’s School of Computer, Data, and Information Sciences, giving students the opportunity to work hands-on with emerging technologies that directly impact the aerospace and manufacturing supply chain. The project challenges students to design an in-app AI assistant trained on aerospace and manufacturing specifications, quality standards, and SmartCert’s unique process flows.

This engagement reflects SmartCert’s commitment to innovation, simplicity, and giving back to the next generation of leaders. The capstone provides UW–Madison students with valuable real-world experience applying advanced AI in a highly specialized industry.

“Partnerships like this give our students a chance to stretch their learning and see the direct impact of their work,” said John Garnetti, Managing Director of the Office of Business Engagement at UW–Madison. “SmartCert’s commitment to simplifying complex industry processes makes for a great match with our students’ drive to innovate and contribute.”

“Working with UW–Madison students on this project is an exciting opportunity,” said Matthew Waller, Director of Engineering at SmartCert. “They’ll be tackling a real-world challenge at the intersection of aerospace, manufacturing, and AI, and I look forward to guiding them through the process. By sharing our technical knowledge and letting them experiment, we’re helping them build practical skills while also pushing SmartCert’s innovation forward.”

“SmartCert was built to solve problems that impact entire supply chains,” added Lonni Kieffer, COO of SmartCert. “This partnership reflects our belief in philanthropy through education—equipping students with the skills and experiences that will shape their careers and the industries they touch.”

Save the date for Wednesday, February 4, 2026, when SmartCert’s Lyndon Lattie and Lonni Kieffer will headline the Wisconsin School of Business Distinguished Entrepreneurs Lunch. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear firsthand from the minds behind SmartCert about how they are reshaping certification and compliance through technology, and to connect with two leaders passionate about driving innovation and empowering the next generation.
