Tech Hub Collaboration Drives Research, Discovery, Economic Development
A story in the latest issue of the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association's "Quarterly" highlights how a broad coalition of more than 20 organizations, institutions of higher education, and businesses — including BioForward Wisconsin and the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) — helped secure a $49 million Phase 2 investment supercharging Wisconsin’s 2023 federal designation as a Regional Technology and Innovation Hub (Tech Hub). A highlight of the Tech Hub designation is the “A++” grade that recognized academic and industry partnerships, showcasing the strong relationships that already exist to power the hub, particularly between Madison and Milwaukee.
Entrepreneur award winners turn ideas into impact — from farming to fashion to fusion
The UW–Madison Office of the Chancellor, in partnership with the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association, recognized Marcus Carpenter, Heather Hasson, and Greg Piefer as recipients of the 2025 Chancellor’s Entrepreneurial Achievement Award. Established in 2011, the Chancellor’s Entrepreneurial Achievement Award recognizes UW–Madison innovators and alumni who have contributed to economic growth and the social good, serving as entrepreneurial models for the UW community and inspiring the campus culture of entrepreneurship.
UW–Madison breaks ground on long-anticipated engineering center
On Thursday, April 17, a crowd of several hundred students, staff, faculty, university leaders, alumni and dignitaries kicked off construction of the UW–Madison College of Engineering’s new building, the 395,000-square-foot Phillip A. Levy Engineering Center. Through experiential learning, emerging research, and dedicated industry partnership space, the Levy Center will stimulate discovery and spark new ideas that will fuel innovation and economic growth in communities across Wisconsin and beyond.
