Thirteen companies from various industries across Wisconsin arrived on campus this fall as a part of the Business Sustainability Leadership Forum. Participants spent the day connecting with materials scientists on plastic alternatives, biodegradable technologies, and energy storage, examining the economic forces shaping sustainability decisions, and attending the UW Sustainability Symposium.
Adele Houghton, President of Biositu, LLC, met with the group to discuss the intersection of architecture and public health and shared how evidence-based, place-centered design can improve both planetary and community well-being.
A working session titled How Dollars Make Decisions in Sustainability highlighted real barriers companies are facing, from transportation costs to workflow changes, and reinforced the value of university partnerships for trusted expertise and community engagement.
The meeting concluded with clear next steps, including a regional pilot project, collective impact modeling, a full-day event on materials, and company visits.
