Chancellor Mnookin highlights “virtuous cycle” of industry engagement

At the recent UW System Board of Regents meeting hosted by UW­–Madison, campus leaders discussed the strengths and successes of the university’s work to engage industry, as well as how it can continue to improve. Chancellor Mnookin’s presentation, “Enhancing Excellence, Overcoming Obstacles, and Pursuing Partnerships,” highlighted several success stories of UW–Madison’s industry engagement.

UW–Madison increases research expenditures by $16 million, retains top 10 research institution ranking

The National Science Foundation has released its 2021 fiscal year Higher Education Research and Development (HERD) data, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison has again ranked eighth in the national research rankings for public and private universities. UW–Madison ranked eighth in the last survey covering the 2020 fiscal year. The rankings are the first to include a full fiscal year reflecting pandemic impacts.

UW–Madison named an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) has designated the University of Wisconsin–Madison as an Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP) University. This designation reflects UW–Madison’s commitment to economic engagement, including its focus on innovation, workforce development, public service, and community engagement. Nominee institutions undergo a rigorous self-study and stakeholder engagement process to identify their economic development strengths and areas of growth and improvement.

Inaugural Jake Leinenkugel Diversity in Brewing Award recipient announced

Babayosimi (Simi) Fadiran, a microbiology major in his second year, is the 2022 recipient of the Jake Leinenkugel Diversity in Brewing Award, which supports students from underrepresented groups pursuing studies in brewing or fermentation sciences at the University of Wisconsin­–Madison.

Experienced innovator to lead new Technology Entrepreneurship Office

A partnership among the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS); the College of Letters & Science; and the College of Engineering, TEO will accelerate the commercialization of UW–Madison science and technology advances by increasing the speed and frequency at which UW research is translated into usable technology. TEO will support STEM-based innovations from any faculty, staff or student at UW–Madison.
